At the World Robot Olympiad (WRO) International Friendly Event in Odense, Denmark, Team USA displayed exceptional robotic skills and innovation. With over 250 teams from 42 countries, the event, held from September 21st-24th, 2023, was a hub of excitement. Team USA's young participants, aged 8-18, achieved their best international results, with Team JAW, consisting of Jack and William, clinching a bronze in the Junior division. Their journey to success, amidst tough global competition, underscores the potential of young American STEM enthusiasts. World Robot Olympiad USA is a great opportunity for kids to explore the world of robotics and gain valuable skills in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math). With different age groups and categories designed to challenge all kinds of minds, participating in this amazing competition is an opportunity that no child should miss out on. Whether your child is a beginner or a pro when it comes to robotics, there's something for everyone at the World Robot Olympiad USA. For beginners aged 8 to 12 years old, there are two main categories, RoboMission and Future Innovators. In the Future Innovators category, teams are encouraged to use any robot they like; from LEGO Mindstorms® robots to those developed by schools or other organizations. Meanwhile, in the RoboMission category teams must using Lego EV3 or Spike Prime Robot Kits. For more advanced students aged 13-18 years old, WRO offers two similar categories but with additional challenges such as AI Cars (Future Engineers) and RoboSports. Regardless of which category or age group your child competes in they will benefit from gaining skills such as creativity, critical thinking, collaboration and research capabilities – key building blocks for their future career path in STEM fields. Taking part in the World Robot Olympiad USA also helps foster important life skills such as resilience as participants tackle difficult problems and work together against tight deadlines. World Robot Olympiad Association is pleased to announce, that Panama has been chosen as host of the International Final 2023. The announcement was made after a video conference, where the First Lady of Panama, Yazmín Colón de Cortizo, the Minister of Education Maruja Gorday de Villalobos and National Organizer, President of FUNDESTEAM Marvin Castillo, made the final presentation for the candidacy in front of the Board of Directors of the WRO Association. To National Organizer Marvin Castillo becoming host country is a historic milestone for Panama. “Now students, teachers, parents and citizens in general will know the importance of STEAM Education. How WRO’s approach helps developing countries improve the quality of their education, how it provides students with 21st century skills, and contribute to their employability – leading to a more equitable and sustainable economic growth.” FUNDESTEAM has held national WRO finals since 2015, and so far 5,000 students from 100 public and private schools across the country have competed.
