RoboMission

RoboMission

WRO RoboMission is a challenge-based competition where students design, construct, and program an autonomous robot to solve specific challenges on a field. Because the field is set up randomly each round, the robot needs to make its own decisions during the run.

General Rules (All Age Groups)

Elementary

Design and program an autonomous robot to solve challenges on a field. Perfect introduction to competitive robotics for younger students.

Ages 8-122-3 StudentsMax 25x25x25cmFree Hardware

Junior

More complex challenges requiring advanced programming. Robots must make autonomous decisions during runs based on field conditions.

Ages 11-152-3 StudentsMax 25x25x25cmFree Hardware

Senior

The most challenging missions requiring sophisticated robot design and advanced programming strategies for complex field scenarios.

Ages 14-192-3 StudentsMax 25x25x25cmFree Hardware
RoboSports

RoboSports

WRO RoboSports is a fun and exciting game where two teams each have two autonomous robots on the field playing a sports game. The robot can be built from all materials with no limitation on motors, sensors, or cameras.

RoboSports - Double Tennis

Teams design two robots that compete against robots from another team in an exciting sports game format.

Common Questions

Everything you need to know about participating in WRO 2026.

How does a WRO season work?
The WRO 2026 season follows a structured competition schedule: Registration and game rules release on January 15, 2026, followed by District Championships (April), School National Championships (July), USEL Affiliate Cup in Aurora, IL (August), US Open Championships (September), regional Open Championships in Asia/Pacific and Europe, and culminating in the International Final in Puerto Rico (December 8–10, 2026).
How do I register my team?
Registration depends on the event type. For WRO tournaments (Open Championships and International Finals), teams must earn a spot by qualifying through partner country tournaments, affiliate tournaments, or other qualifying events. District Championships and School National Championships are exclusive to school partners—affiliates cannot register for these events. For the Affiliate Cup, any active affiliate member can purchase tournament registration directly. Beginning in 2026, all teams must become USEL Affiliates to participate.
Do I need my own robot? Where can I get one?
Yes, teams must bring their own robot. All robot systems are now allowed in all WRO categories for 2026! Each category has specific size and weight requirements—for example, RoboMission allows max 25x25x25cm, RoboSports allows max 20x20x20cm and 1.2kg, and Future Engineers allows max 30x20x30cm.
How much does it cost to participate in WRO?
  • Participation requires purchasing either a Season Pass or Event Organizer Pass from the USEL Store.
  • The Season Pass and Event Organizer Pass grant eligibility to participate. Registration fees for the Affiliate Cup and Regional Open Qualifiers are separate and vary by event.
  • Event Organizers do not pay USEL per-team fees to register teams to their own hosted events.
  • For teams qualifying for international competitions, additional fees apply.
What is the USEL Affiliate Program?
Beginning in 2026, all teams, competition organizers, and educational organizations must become USEL Affiliates. This provides access to competitions, exclusive discounts, and the right to host sanctioned WRO events.
Can my organization host a competition?
Yes! To host a sanctioned WRO competition, your organization will need to purchase an Event Organizer Season Pass. Approved events can award qualification spots for WRO Open Championships. Contact USEL for more information about becoming a competition organizer.
