Our mission is to help young people develop their creativity and problem-solving skills in a fun and engaging way. We do this by organizing robotics competitions in four different categories for students aged 8-19 years.

Register a Team for WRO 2025

​Registration for the WRO season is open. There are over many competitions spread across USA via in person tournaments like RoboPalooza or our Online Tournaments.
The 2025 season brings exciting innovations:
For the first time, the WRO competition is completely open to all technologies, meaning that all robot systems are allowed in all WRO categories. We also have various funding offers, especially for teams in the Future Engineers and Future Innovators categories.

Introduction to the World Robot Olympiad 

The WRO is an international robot competition for children and young people aged 8 - 22. In exciting competitions, girls and boys have the opportunity to learn about computer science, technology and robotics in a playful way. The most important information about the competition summarized:

  • There are 3 competition categories with several age groups and a starter program for beginners.
  • Each year there are regional competitions, followed by competition qualifiers.
  • Children and young people can take part in teams of 2 or 3 with an adult team coach.
  • In addition to WRO robots, any other robots can be used in the competition.

How to Join Team USA Robotics

To join Team USA Robotics for World Robot Olympiad (WRO)International events, participants must meet eligibility criteria, compete in designated qualifying events, and achieve top rankings

Eligibility Requirements

  • Citizenship: Must be a U.S. citizen OR a permanent resident of the United States for at least 24 Months prior to the qualification event or nomination.
  • Registration: Must have active National Registration before competing.
  • Affiliated Participation: Compete in qualifying events managed by recognized organizations.
  • Age Group Compliance: Meet the WRO rules for your age group.

International Finals

  • Top 3 Placement: Achieve a top 3 spot in your category and age group at nationals.
  • National Scores: Meet WRO-USA score thresholds.
  • Team Structure: Teams must have at least 2 members and one unique adult representative (coach).
  • Travel Requirements: Coaches must accompany teams to international events.

Qualifying Events

  • Compete in USEL / WRO-USA-sanctioned events.
  • Meet event-specific standards.
  • Achieve a national ranking.
  • Earn top placements.

Nomination

  • Teams nominated for OPEN events by affiliates must:
  • Place in the Top 10 of a qualifying USEL/WRO-USA event within the last 12 months.
  • Meet all other eligibility requirements.
  • Be Approve By National Organization of WRO-USA (USEL Youth Robotics)

How does a WRO season work?

  • WRO-USA National Championships: Ontario, CA, July 18th - 20th, 2025
  • SumoBot National Championships: Ontario, CA, July 18th - 20th, 2025
  • WRO-USA Open: Dekalb, Illinois, August 1st - 3rd, 2025
  • Open Championship: Europe Ljubljana, Slovenia, September 2nd - 5th, 2025
  • Open Championship: Asia & Pacific Manila, Philippines, September 19th - 21st, 2025
  • Open Championship: Americas Panama City, Panama, October 19th - 21st, 2025
  • Open Championship: Middle East & North Africa Jubail, Saudi Arabia, October 23rd - 25th, 2025
  • International Final: Singapore, November 26th - 28th, 2025

How do I register a team for the competition?

  • Registration for a WRO season is open from **November to mid-March** via our online system: WRO Registration.
  • When registering a team, you must select the **competition category and age group**.
  • After purchasing, you will receive a link to enter **student and guardian details**.
  • A **signed data protection form** is required when submitting team member details.

Do I need my own robot? Where can I get one?

  • Yes, teams must bring their own robot. You can purchase a robot from our store.
  • The type of robot depends on the competition category you are entering.
  • All robot systems are allowed, but each category has specific size, weight, and sensor rules.

How much does it cost to participate in WRO?

  • Each team is charged a registration fee to cover:
  • Materials for competitions (e.g., playing field mats)
  • Materials for teams (e.g., trophies and certificates)
  • Public relations (e.g., flyers, posters, marketing)
  • Employees, office, and storage costs
  • For teams qualifying for international competitions, an additional fee applies.

Move-in Date and Time

  • Regionals: April 18th from **10 AM - 4 PM** OR April 19th from **7 AM - 9 AM**
  • Nationals: July 18th from **10 AM - 4 PM**

How many booths are available for exhibitors?

  • Regionals: Up to **15** 10x10 booths can fit.
  • Nationals: More space is available in **Exhibit Hall B**, allowing for **double the booths**.

Is parking included for exhibitors?

  • Yes, exhibitors receive **one parking pass**. Additional passes can be requested.

Will there be WiFi and electricity?

  • Yes, **WiFi** and **electricity** will be available.
